Specifies the identifier element of the "parent" for a group which determines how items are grouped.
A group may have a number of repeating items within it, but for this to happen, there must be something that the repeating elements have in common. This is the "parent group identifier"
Consider the situation where a department has a number of employees. If we list all the employees within each department, without specifying a parent group identifier, then we will repeatedly show a new element for the same group and each will be a group of one item.
<DEPT><DEPT_NAME>X</DEPT_NAME><EMPLOYEES><EMPLOYEE><EMPNAME>A</EMPNAME></EMPLOYEE></DEPT>
<DEPT><DEPT_NAME>X</DEPT_NAME><EMPLOYEES><EMPLOYEE><EMPNAME>B</EMPNAME></EMPLOYEE></DEPT>
<DEPT><DEPT_NAME>Y</DEPT_NAME><EMPLOYEES><EMPLOYEE><EMPNAME>C</EMPNAME></EMPLOYEE></DEPT>
<DEPT><DEPT_NAME>Y</DEPT_NAME><EMPLOYEES><EMPLOYEE><EMPNAME>D</EMPNAME></EMPLOYEE></DEPT>
But if we say that all employees are grouped within department and the <EMPLOYEES> group has a parent group identifer of DEPT_NAME then the EMPLOYEES group will "close" when there is a change of DEPT_NAME, but repeat otherwise.
<DEPT><DEPT_NAME>X</DEPT_NAME>
<EMPLOYEES>
<EMPLOYEE><EMPNAME>A</EMPNAME></EMPLOYEE>
<EMPLOYEE><EMPNAME>B</EMPNAME></EMPLOYEE>
<EMPLOYEES>
</DEPT>
<DEPT><DEPT_NAME>Y</DEPT_NAME>
<EMPLOYEES>
<EMPLOYEE><EMPNAME>C</EMPNAME></EMPLOYEE>
<EMPLOYEE><EMPNAME>D</EMPNAME></EMPLOYEE>
<EMPLOYEES>
</DEPT>
